One of the hotter coaching candidates in all of college football is the University of Houston’s Kevin Sumlin.
The Arizona Republic is reporting that Arizona State is striking while the iron is hot, offering Sumlin the head coaching job. The Houston Chronicle, however, claims that this report is inaccurate, saying that not only has he not been offered the job, he hasn’t even spoken with the school.
It’s no surprise that the Sun Devils would potentially covet a guy like Sumlin. His body of work speaks for itself.
He has led the Cougars throughout their highly successful season. With a win in the Conference USA Championship game against Southern Miss, the Cougars will clinch a perfect 13-0 season and a spot in a BCS bowl game. Rather impressive accomplishments, considering the program has never achieved either in its history.
If the higher ups at the University of Houston know what’s good for them, they’ll try locking Sumlin into an extension, as soon as possible, so he doesn’t leave for ASU or one of the other big football colleges in need of a new head coach.
