Spurrier Delivers Low Blow towards Saban at SEC Media Days

“It’s easier to win the national championship than the SEC (championship). Ask Nick Saban.”

Ouch. Talk about a warning shot. He is obviously referring to the 2011 Crimson Tide who did not even make an appearance in last year’s SEC title game, and yet beat LSU in the rematch, handing the undefeated Tigers their first lost of the year in a romp, 21-0. The undeserving asterisk seems to have been placed on Alabama per Coach Spurrier’s request.

If you’re excited about a new rivalry in the SEC, you’ll certainly have to wait, as the only way these two would face off is in the SEC championship game. But my oh my, how explosive that game would be.

So now we wait for Coach Saban’s response. I’m willing to bet no media member will be willing to gather a rebuttal from Saban. So let’s sit on pins and needles to see how the Crimson Tide coach will respond.

  1. it amazes me why anyone wants to hear the ole ball sack anyway?
when he wins the SEC championship, let alone his division, then he can make a comment like that. other than Florida, he has no track record in winning anything. it is amazing to me that south carolina fans hated steve when he was at florida, but now they love him?

If I can try to get into his head here, maybe his thought process was that he was trying to enhance the domination of the SEC? It’s a long shot, but by saying that winning the SEC first is more difficult that playing a non SEC school, I could see that. But calling out Saban isn’t the way to get your point across.

  3. Why should we even care what Spurrier says? I doubt that Saban cares either!
