Chad Morris and players met with the media today to discuss Saturday’s 38-17 win over Virginia Tech to improve to 6-1 (3-1 ACC), and to preview Thursday night’s game at Wake Forest.
Morris–
“You have to look at it a couple different ways. [Virginia Tech] was playing inspired last week against Duke and that carried through to Saturday. You have to give them credit.”
“With that said, our performance was very lethargic. I’m going to be just as nice and G-rated as I can be aboout this. You can look at two of the first three plays of the game, and they were sacks. Tajh was having a difficult time stepping up in the pocket, and that was causing balls to sail. He was off his game, too.”
“Whether it was the open week or our timing was off, that’s just excuses. That’s just bullcorn in my opinion. That’s unacceptable and we’re not going to accept that. We haven’t had many days look like that.”
“Tajh is glad it’s a short week. He’s told me that a few times already.”
Josh Watson (DT) –
“In the second half, we locked them down. They had about 60 yards rushing. We gave up too much to Logan Thomas, though.”
“Wake Forest is undefeated on Thursday nights at home. We never take them lightly. They have something up their sleeves. Last year, Coach Brooks told us they ran 15 trick plays. They always play well against good teams.”
On the difficulty of the quick turnaround- “Getting our legs back. Yesterday, we had practice. It was way too productive of a Sunday for me. The best part is we get to miss a lot of school.”
On his sack of Logan Thomas – “I didn’t know what happened. I was hanging on to his legs for dear life.”
Malliciah Goodman (DE) –
“We are working on pass rush a lot more in practice, we did a lot in the open date.”
“Coaches have done a better job at subbing, keeping fresh guys in there all the time. You see it it [paying off] in the 3rd and 4th quarters.”
Xavier Brewer (CB/S)–
On the season-ending injury to CB Darius Robinson – “That really hurts us. He was starting to get his confidence back and play well.”
“Whenever he gets his chance he’s focused. As long as he stayed dialed in, he’ll be fine. He has all the athletic tools.”
“I’ll be playing only corner now. It will be easier now that I don’t have to think about everything else and do everyone else’s job.”
