Why PSU can win the Leaders Division Part 1

Over the past week, The Patriot News has done a series on why the Nittany Lions can not only contend for the Leaders Division, but they can come out on top. The series is split across five days and started with a segment on improved quarterback play.  Matt McGloin will be the undisputed Penn State starting quarterback and already seems more relaxed and prepared due to the way Coach O’Brien has handled the situation.  David Jones of The Patriot News believes this could be the year McGloin actually meshes with the offense.

“…but I think this is a year McGloin’s been waiting for and I have a feeling he’ll embrace it. He’s a bright enough guy to learn and he’s highly motivated – both by his intrinsic ambition and his desire to prove what he believes he could’ve been accomplishing all along. I think that’s some powerful juice. We’ll see.”

Coach O’Brien’s system should make or break McGloins legacy at Penn State and with many returning pieces from last years team the pressure of success lands on McGloins shoulders.  The Nittany Lions hope of a Big Ten title rests on how far McGloin can carry them and if they wish to become contenders in a stacked Big Ten they need significantly enhanced performance under center.
