Wrapping up this five part series on how PSU can win the Big Ten is the fact that Ohio State cannot qualify this year. Urban Meyer and the Ohio State are serving their one year ban from postseason play which eliminates them from competition for the Leaders Division title. Ohio State is in a transition year with Meyer and playing for nothing but bragging rights. Penn State will use their game against Ohio State as a scale to see where they stand based on the projected success OSU is suppose to have this season. David Jones of The Patriot News believes this year is PSU’s best shot at beating the Buckeyes.
By the time Ohio State visits State College on Halloween weekend, the lack of a clear season-end goal could be kicking in and motivation could be a problem for the Buckeyes. Not only that, OSU figures to be a little beat up not yet having enjoyed its bye which doesn’t arrive until the season’s 11th week.

Penn State’s main competition this year comes from Wisconsin and that is not an easy match up either. To win the Big Ten Penn State needs to establish itself against the best opponents in the country. Beating Ohio State will go a long way to proving the Nittany Lions are legitimate contenders. Or they can crash and settle with mediocrity in Bill O’Brien’s first season. College football is almost here and Penn State should make some noise in the Big Ten with their schedule. This also may be the last time they are in contention for a title with Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes becoming eligible again next season.
