After several days of deliberation between the brass at Penn State University, the statue of former football coach Joe Paterno has been removed from Beaver Stadium. The statue which weighs more than 900 pounds and stands at 7 feet tall was removed via forklift in front of several students chanting “We are Penn State.”

The statue removal ended days of debate since the release of the Freeh Report which placed Paterno in the center of a cover up of Jerry Sandusky’s sex abuse crimes. Earlier in the week a plane flew a banner flew above Beaver Stadium demanding the statue’s removal. The memorial to Paterno was built in 2001.
