The 2012 set to kickoff this week and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be without key players when they open up against Navy on Saturday in Dublin, Ireland. Starting QB Tommy Reese as well as linebacker Carlo Calebrese were already suspended for their role in a dust up with police. Now with their opener only six days away, the Fighting Irish will have to make due without starting running back Cierre Wood and defensive end Justin Utopo. Both Wood and Utopo have been suspended for the first two games of the season for violation of team rules.

Taking Wood’s place will be Theo Riddick. Everett Golson will take the snaps for the Irish against Navy. No matter how you slice it, the discipline issues facing Notre Dame has taken a toll on the depth of the team. If they can weather the storm the playing time the reserves get will be extremely valuable to Notre Dame as the get deeper into the season. We will see how this all plays out.
