With LSU kicking star DB Tyrann Mathieu off the team, where will the honey badger land next? If he transfers to another FBS school, he will have to sit out a year. If he transfers to an FCS school he can play right away. There are sources that are claiming that Mathieu is headed to McNeese State, which is located in Lake Charles, LA. In fact one of his former teammates, Josh Jasper tweeted on Friday that Mathieu was indeed going to transfer to McNeese State.
If McNeese State gets the honey badger, that would be huge for the program which finished 6-5 last season. Mathieu was a Heisman finalist in 2011 and won the Bednarik Award for the nation’s top defensive player. Adding a caliber player like that will certainly raise a program’s profile. Also, Mathieu will get to play right away which will likely help his prospects for the 2013 NFL draft.
