Tough Questions for Gene Chizik at SEC Media Days

Everybody knows Gene Chizik is not good at answering questions clearly.  In fact he’s monotone, he rambles (a lot), and he’s become an expert at deflecting controversial questions. The media’s focus for the day was grilling Chizik about off-the-field issues, most specifically the Cam Newton recruiting “scandal.”

When questioned about his recent run in with Julie Roe Lach, NCAA Vice President of Enforcement, Chizik claims the exchange was “not confrontational at all,” but also says he thought the dialog they had was “private.” Whats to hide then, Gene?

“There were some clarifications that were made that had to do with process,” Chizik said. The best part is the “clarification” the NCAA representative’s provided to the Auburn head coach was “You’ll know when we’re finished. And we’re not finished.”

A Beyond U Sports shot of Chizik answering questions just a few moments ago

Just yesterday, Danny Sheridan told USA Today’s Paul Finebaum that he believes the NCAA has found the bag man involved in bringing Cam Newton to Auburn. When Chizik was asked about this, his response was classic.

“I’ll make this real clear the NCAA on more than one occasion said that Auburn’s done nothing wrong in recruiting Cam Newton. Nothing’s changed.”

He ended by saying, “I sleep really good every night when my head hits the pillow.” What a typical nonsensical response from the Auburn coach.  We’ll keep you posted on any developments on this story.
