Have you ever wanted to own your own college basketball court?
Well, now you can. The University of Colorado is auctioning off its court floor from the Coors Event Center with a starting bid of $5,000. The auction is taking place on the website HigherEdSurplus.com.
This sale seems simple enough, except the University is basically telling the lucky new owner(s) that it’s their responsibility to move the court from the building among other minor details.
Also, in case you’re prone to getting buyer remorse, sorry. The school says that there are no refunds for your spontaneous splurge.
The person who ends up winning the old court deserves to have the new court named in his or her honor. Seriously, how many more people could possibly be more devoted Buffalo fans than the fan who buys the old court?
No offense to the university, but it’s not like this court has the kind of history found in Durham or Lexington. The winning bidder will likely brag about how his court featured some of the early moments in Chauncey Billups’ career. Not the worst name drop in the world, but certainly without the same ring as a Carmelo Anthony or someone with a college career of that ilk.
Good luck to all involved, and if anyone reading this article ends up winning the court, make sure to save yours truly some court time. Personally, I’d love to follow in Chauncey’s footsteps.
