Bobby Petrino and the Arkansas Time Machine

A lot is going to be written and talked about in the coming days regarding Louisiana-Monroe’s huge upset over 8th ranked Arkansas on Saturday. First off you have to give ULM credit for beating the Razorbacks. Sure Arkansas didn’t have star QB Tyler Wilson for key parts of the game, but that is because ULM knocked him out of the game. Was that injury the difference? Most likely. Freshman Brandon Allen came in and didn’t exactly shine.  At the end of the day everyone really knows what the difference was, and that’s the wrong coach was on the sidelines for the Razorbacks.

With all due respect to John L. Smith, there’s a reason why he wasn’t an active coach for several years. Clearly Arkansas was in a major crisis after the abrupt firing of Bobby Petrino, but there had to be better options. Instead of acting like Al Haig after Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinkley Jr, Arkansas AD Jeff Long should have taken some more time figure out turn the crisis into an opportunity. Instead he flinched and John L. smith was hired and the rest is a disappointing history.

The truth is that Jeff Long and everyone associated with Arkansas after the loss to ULM on Saturday wish they had a time machine to go back and do something. The first step would have been to cut off Petrino’s Viagra supply. The next step would have been to slash the tires of his motorcycle. Screw the threat of a paradox, the real universe Arkansas lives in right now really stinks. A strange alternate universe regardless of it’s consequences had to be better. There’s no way in Hades Arkansas loses that game to ULM a week before playing Alabama. No way. Even if Tyler Wilson gets knocked out of the game, Petrino would have had his back up Allen ready to roll.

The truth is that there’s no DeLorean time machine available and Doc Brown and Marty McFly don’t really exist. That’s a darn shame for Arkansas fans. They could have really used Bobby Petrino on Saturday. Now they have to suffer through a potential mediocre season. Of course all can be forgotten if they take down Alabama. Good luck with that one John L Smith.

One Response to Bobby Petrino and the Arkansas Time Machine

  1. Those are my thoughts exactly. I had the same sick feeling Sat. night as I had the day I heard that Coach Petrino was fired. Now I see a not very bright future for Razorback football.
