Anthony Davis Gets Cut from Team USA

National player of the year Anthony Davis was cut from Team USA yesterday.  No surprise here, considering Davis injured his ankle in a New Orleans Hornets practice recently.  It was previously thought that Davis’ chance to make the team had been elevated due to other front court superstars (Chris Bosh, Andrew Bynum, LaMarcus Aldridge) electing not to compete, but Davis just couldn’t effectively practice in the Las Vegas training camp, according to Coach K on the selection show yesterday.

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said in a statement:

“We projected we would have difficulty getting down to a roster of 12, regardless of the number of injuries that have taken place, because they are such an outstanding group of people and athletes. The final selections keep us in concert with our game plan to have athleticism, versatility and strong depth on our roster. I think our final roster epitomizes all of that.”

My feeling is had he not been injured, Davis probably would have made the roster, but he’ll have to wait another four years to compete in the Olympics. And of course there are the insane conspiracy theorists who believe Davis isn’t really injured and that the New Orleans Hornets are just being conservative with Davis who is the new face of their franchise.

Just a hunch- I don’t think Team USA will be missing Davis.
