Defensive end Robert Nkemdiche from Loganville, Georgia has made his pledge to the Tigers. The 2013 stud, ranked number 1 overall by both Scout.com and Rivals.com, chose Clemson over Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU, UGA, South Carolina, among other SEC schools.
Nkemdiche has camped at Clemson these past few days, and announced this afternoon of his decision to join Swinney’s program.
Here’s Nkemdiche’s highlight tape.
Nkemdiche is extremely athletic for his size (6’4, 268), and can potentially play defensive tackle or linebacker- a Terrell Suggs type linebacker. Scout.com says he’s “quick enough to be a viable running back prospect.” Last season for Grayson High School, he had 78 tackles, 36 tackles for a loss and 18 sacks on defense while also running for 528 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns on offense, according to Scout.com.
Is he better than last year’s number 1 player, South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney? Too early to tell, but in two years, it will be a heck of a lot of fun watching these two dominate each other’s rival school.
Two of Nkemdiche’s high school teammates have also committed to the Tigers. Who says Clemson doesn’t recruit Georgia? And as CUTigers.com publisher Roy Philpott said, “Eskimos — here is ice. You will buy it. Signed, Dabo Swinney.”
Clemson now has eight commitments for 2013. Nkemdiche’s current teammate, cornerback David Kamara, committed yesterday to Clemson. Clemson also gained a pledge yesterday from 2014 Miami Central running back, 4 star Dalvin Cook, while 2014 Texas defensive back Dylan Sumner-Gardner committed today. The Tigers have three commitments in the 2014 class.
Nkemdiche’s teammate Wayne Gallman, 4 star running back who committed to Clemson in April, tweeted this of the Grayson High School trio dressed in orange. Nkemdiche is on the right. Isn’t that a pretty sight, Tiger fans?
Oh- and Nkemdiche’s first tweet of his big news- “I’m trending world wide.” Is it time yet for recruiting to be considered a sport of its own?
